Gov. Scott wants to drop DROP

It’s only one sentence in the daily paper’s article on Gov. Rick Scott’s proposed changes to the state pension system. Scott wants to end DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Plan) by closing the plan effective July 1. The City has 94 employees in the program and you can expect more to opt in before the deadline.

DROP allows employees to set their retirement date five years ahead and then they accrue their pension checks into an escrow account which they collect upon retirement.
