Ray Guillory, Democratic candidate for Escambia County Commissioner Dist. 2, has posted his platform:
- We have to rebuild our blighted residential neighborhoods, and invest in restoring and building infrastructure.
- Create a County Department of Economic Development and Tourism. Set a clear goal for the department and hold ourselves to it. All funds the county expends through various agencies for economic development and tourism will be redirected to this department.
- Build a public private partnership between the Escambia County government, the Escambia County School Board, local employers , unions, colleges and universities to develop training and apprenticeship programs that train the next generation for good jobs.
- Environmental protection. So much of our economy relies on tourism., When we are trying to create an atmosphere to lure jobs to our county, we cannot continue to close water ways for fecal contamination and we must clean up the area’s superfund sites.
- Create a Commission on Criminal Corrections and work to improve our current county jail. We need to cut cost and find alternatives to incarceration. We must work to prevent recidivism in addition to rehabilitation and punishment. We should work to lead Florida in state of the art corrections. I do not believe in jail privatization.
- We must create a better network for public transportation. We need to have a longer service day and more frequent routes. Most users of public transportation do not work 9-5 Monday through Friday.
- Work with our government and private partners to create free WiFi zones for economically distressed neighborhoods to provide access for disadvantaged people for educational and economic purposes.
- I will put forth a resolution to defy the state government decree that bans health departments from helping our citizens to sign up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
