The Florida Institute of Oceanography (FIO) will host a public information session on Monday, Nov. 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 pm at the Escambia County Central Office Complex, in order to gather public feedback on a newly funded RESTORE Act program intended to help the Gulf recover from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
The FIO is the congressionally designated lead on Florida’s Centers of Excellence Research Grants Program in support of science and technology related to the 2010 spill. Treasury regulations enacted in October 2014 enable FIO to begin the process of implementing the program using $4 million in RESTORE Act funds from Transocean’s criminal settlement in 2012.
The Escambia County Central Office Complex is located at 3363 West Park Place. FIO staff will describe proposed rules, policies and priorities for science and technology projects to be funded by program grants. Public comments and surveys will be used to revise the program strategy before new projects are selected and funded.
