Mobile Press Register that two Texas men accused of trying to trade narcotics and cash for military-grade weapons and body armor pleaded guilty today to a federal drug charge. Jesucristo Lopez, 29, and Alejandro Cantu-Reyes, 35, drove to a Lowe’s store in Tillman’s Corner on July 11 with cocaine and marijuana hidden inside the engine compartment of Cantu-Reyes’ vehicle. Undercover agents showed Lopez the weapons and negotiated a down payment, according to the plea agreement. Lopez was going to smuggle the guns into Mexico.
This is the second case involving drugs and guns being smuggled out of and into Mexico. I reported on the convictions in Panama City earlier this month (Mexican Drug Cartel convictions) which involved AK-47 machine guns.
