Gun violence continues

Pensacola Police have released photographs of two men wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred Wednesday night at a local business on West Garden Street.

The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. at the Dollar General store at the corner of G and Garden streets after two black males entered the store. One of the males had a handgun, pointed it at the clerk and demanded she open the cash register.

When the clerk said she couldn’t open the register unless she was ringing up a sale, he shot her once in the stomach. Both suspects then fled the area on foot.

The clerk underwent surgery for non-life threatening injuries.

Anyone having information on the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 433-STOP.

In early December, Mayor Grover Robinson stood in front of city hall with U.S. Attorney Larry Keefe and touted the success of their joint task force, Protect Pensacola, which had yielded at 117 arrests over 90 days.

Many hoped the city would see a decrease in gun violence after the press conference. Unfortunately, the opposite has occurred. Guns are being fired all over the city, even on busy streets and inside stores filled with customers.
