Guttam to head UWF Center on Aging

Press Release: The University of West Florida named Dr. Rodney Guttmann as the director of the UWF Center on Aging, effective Aug. 8. He will also serve as a faculty member in the School of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences.

Guttmann received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Florida State University in 1991 and went on to receive his doctorate in pharmacology in 1998. He served as an assistant and associate professor at the University of Kentucky from 2001 to 2011 and was also director of graduate studies.

As director of the Center on Aging, Guttmann plans to bring the resources of the university together to focus on educating the general public on the issues of aging, from biological to psychosocial.

“I’m going to emphasize outreach to and partnership with community agencies and academic institutions across Northwest Florida,” said Guttmann.

A Pensacola native, Guttmann plans to foster interdisciplinary approaches to improve the well-being of older adults in his hometown.

“I feel very fortunate to be able to come back to my hometown and make a difference,” said Guttmann. “The faculty here are very supportive. I’m excited about the Center and what it’s going to do for the community.”
