Handcapping BOCC Vote

What would it take to terminate County Administrator George Touart?

A Escambia County commissioner could make a motion to amend Gene Valentino’s agenda item to suspend Touart to be termination. There would have to be a second and then four votes to fire Touart.

Which commissioner could make the motion?

Most likely: Grover Robinson – who has already taken a strong stance on public trust and integrity.

Maybe: Marie Young – but she’s so nice – it’s doubtful she would initiate such a bold move. However, if Grover makes the motion, Marie may second it.
Not Likely: Gene Valentino – the suspension idea is his. He’s already patting himself on the back for this proposal, thinking that he has found the perfect middle ground.

Won’t do it: Kevin White – chairs the meeting and the chairman rarely makes a motion. He grumbles about Touart behind his back, but rarely stands up to Whitehead and Touart publicly.

Never, never: Mike Whitehead – Whitehead’s personal hunting trips and other activities with Touart fully compromise him on this issue. He’s too close a friend of Touart to do anything. He may not even vote to suspend Touart.

If termination of Touart’s employment ever came to a vote:

Grover Robinson and Marie Young: Yes

Mike Whitehead: No

Gene Valentino, Kevin White: Too close to call
