Harris says Nelson not Christian enough

Republican candidate for U.S. senate Katherine Harris badly wants to make religion an issue in her campaign against heavily-favored incumbent Bill Nelson.

In an interview published by a Christian news service, Harris said incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson “claims to be a Christian” but supports policies “completely contrary to what we say we believe.”

Nelson has served as chairman and vice chairman of the National Prayer Breakfast. When he flew on the space shuttle in 1986, he took a Bible with him. But that’s not good enough for Harris.

We used to have worry about candidates pulling the “race card” or “abortion/pro choice” card – Now there’s a “religion card” – where you can’t just be a Christian, you have to be my kind of Christian.

The timing of the movie “Jesus Camp” couldn’t be better.
