Hayward hires new CIO

Mayor Ashton Hayward announced yesterday in a press release that he has hired a new Chief Information Officer, Steve Smith of Flower Mound, Texas.

Smith, who was 2010 Texas Public CIO of the Year, will lead the City’s Technology Resources Division, which is responsible for managing the City’s computer and telecommunications networks and other information technology infrastructure. His annual salary will be $89,980.80

According Chief Operations Officer Tamara Fountain, his hiring does not require approval of the Pensacola City Council.

The press release said Smith has extensive experience working in both the public and private sectors, including past service as the Chief Information Officer for both Tarrant County, Texas (Fort Worth area) and Orange County, Florida (Orlando). Smith holds a Bachelors in Business Administration in management information systems from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Mayor Hayward said of his new CIO, “Steve shares my commitment to leveraging technology to continue innovating and improving how we do business and serve the public, and I am excited to welcome him to Pensacola.”
