Help Clean up Bayou Chico Saturday, June 25

The public is invited to join Escambia County Natural Resources Management’s Marine Resources and Water Quality Divisions for the Bayou Chico Trash Round-up Saturday, June 25 from 9-11:30 a.m., hosted by the Bayou Chico Association and the MarineMax Pensacola team. Escambia County staff and interns will participate in this cleanup as part of ongoing marine debris and water quality programs, including community outreach and education, internship projects, Ocean Hour weekly cleanups and the Ocean Conservancy’s annual International Coastal Cleanup. The bayou cleanup effort will begin at MarineMax Pensacola at Bahia Mar Marina, located at 1901 Cypress St. in Pensacola.

Participants will leave the docks by boat into the bayou for the cleanup. Supplies will be provided, but those with a boat, canoe or kayak should bring it along to help gather debris along the shoreline. Anyone who does not have a boat should call to reserve a spot to participate. Lunch will be provided at the docks following the cleanup. To reserve a volunteer spot, call (866) 320-5826.

The Bayou Chico Association is a community-based nonprofit organization of home, business and boat owners working together to effectively identify and solve environmental problems threatening Bayou Chico through public education, action and advocacy.
