Major General David A. Morris is tonight’s guest of honor for the Marine Corps League ‘s the Annual Heroes Among Us speaker series, starting 6 p.m. at Pensacola Veterans Memorial Park.
Major General David A. Morris, US Army (Ret), is an advisor and consultant in the fields of defense and leadership, as well as Chairman Emeritus of the Green Beret Foundation. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, served in Infantry and Special Forces assignments, including tours in the war in El Salvador; duty as the operations officer for an in-extremis force, and as a Special Forces instructor. In 1991, he participated in Operation DESERT STORM, serving at USSOCOM. After the 9/11 attacks, Morris deployed for Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, and led a sensitive project for support to Special Operations Forces. In Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, he commanded a Special Operations Task Force.
Morris was subsequently assigned to US Joint Forces Command, where he served as the Deputy Director for Joint Capability Development and later as the Director of the Joint Irregular Warfare Center, which included duties as the Department of Defense Executive Agent for Joint Urban Operations. As a civilian, General Morris’ service in the intelligence community included the Central Intelligence Agency and intelligence organizations across the Defense Department. His most significant awards include the Army Distinguished Service Medal, two Defense Superior Service Medals, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Joint Service Commendation Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge with Star, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, the Republic of Colombia Lancero Badge (Ranger), and the jump wings of nine foreign nations.
Admission is free and open to the public, although donations will be accepted for the Heroes Among Us Fund to help veterans in need.
