Highly political week ends

Here is the scorecard:

City of Pensacola: No strong mayor, but will review charter. No to another industrial tenant to the Port of Pensacola – Rinker withdraws lease offer.

Escambia County: Daily newspaper reveals County Administrator George Touart had business relationships with the parties in a $1.41 million purchase of Bauer Road land. Commissions voids transaction and spanks Touart. On the firefighter issue, county staff disputes Clerk of Courts Ernie Lee Magaha’s audit figures on the stipend mispayments – more delays on dealing with this issue. On the library and ECAT, the 10-member City Council and five-member county commission are planning to meet Aug. 27 to hash out ideas and solutions about funding the ECAT busing system and the library.

In another separate meeting of Florida/Alabama Transportation Planning Organization meeting, Escambia County used their bloc vote to take $65 million in state and federal funds earmarked to six-lane U.S. 98 near Gulf Breeze for projects in Escambia County.

As usual, a lot of drama but few real decisions.
