We received this email late last week. Chasidy Hobbs is the new president of Emerald Coastkeepers

Hello Fellow Clean Water Lovers!

It has been awhile since you have heard from me, and so very much has happened since then. Exciting things are in store involving Emerald Coastkeeper and I am thrilled to share some of that with you
today.

I have recently taken over as President of Emerald Coastkeeper and I am working on bringing new energy and ideas to your organization by developing a new Board of Directors to support our mission of
Swimmable, Fishable, Drinkable water! You recently heard from the kick butt Coastkeeper I recruited; Laurie Murphy. When I began to think about who has a scientific and business background with a
passion for educating about clean water and healthy communities; Laurie was the first person I thought of and we are so very fortunate to have her at the helm of our ship!! She has hit the ground running
and is going to be an amazing advocate, educating about and providing a voice for clean water throughout our community.

I am also very excited about our first big project, Swim Guide! One of the largest economic engines for our community is our beaches. Unfortunately, sometimes our favorite swimming holes have swim
advisories due to stormwater runoff carrying pollutants into our waterways. Most people, however, do not know how to access that information; hence, Emerald Coastkeeper providing easy access to that
data through Swim Guide (more details coming soon!). Anyone with a smart phone or internet access can now see where swim advisories have been issued in our region.

Not only that, we can use the Swim Guide to help educate the public about the need to address significant stormwater pollution in our community. YOU can help, in fact, we need you to provide eyes on our waterways because Laurie cannot be at all of our beaches all the time. See something amiss? Report it through our new pollution report here

Revitalization is happening and Emerald Coastkeeper is coming back stronger than ever. We want to remind our community how intimately connected our economic health is to the health of our environment. We want to educate people how to protect our natural resources, not only for environmental protection, but also economic health and human health. We want to provide a voice for our natural resources in
decision making processes. We want to celebrate the beauty of our home and swim, fish, paddle, ride and drink clean water. Together we can celebrate, educate and protect one of the things that makes our
home most special, our waterways and beaches; join us won’t you?

I would love to hear from you! What do you see as the most pressing issues needing to be addressed? How can Emerald Coastkeeper help with your right to swimmable, fishable, drinkable? How would you like to get involved? Email me anytime: Chasidy@emeraldcoastkeeper.org.

You can also join us for our very first event “The Big Float”. We will be enjoying Blackwater River and cleaning it at the same time with the help of Sweetwater Brewing Company and Adventures Unlimited
on August 29th. Check out the details and let us know we can look forward to seeing you there by reserving a canoe or kayak here.

I am looking forward to doing great things together and to hearing from you soon!

Take care,

Chasidy Fisher Hobbs
President
Emerald Coastkeeper
