From Escambia County:
During the Special Board of County Commissioners meeting today, appointed Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger was installed as District 4 County Commissioner and recognized as Vice Chair for her term through Nov. 18. Commissioner Hofberger was sworn in by The Honorable Judge Jennifer Frydrychowicz, with a reading of the Commission by The Honorable Pam Childers, Clerk of the Circuit Court.
“I am honored to have received the appointment of District 4 County Commissioner by Governor DeSantis,” Commissioner Hofberger said. “I have hit the ground running, prioritizing vital initiatives such as enhancing resources for our first responders, streamlining business operations in Escambia County, and ensuring a better investment of taxpayer dollars.”
She continued, “Being appointed during the final weeks of my campaign adds an interesting dynamic as I navigate the responsibilities of office while actively seeking the support of voters for the November 5th election. It’s a unique opportunity to learn and engage with the community simultaneously. As I balance my new role and campaign efforts, I remain committed to my vision for Escambia County.
“My focus is clear: support our first responders, facilitate business growth, and manage taxpayer funds wisely. I believe in a collaborative approach to make a positive impact.”

Inweekly and State Rep. Alex Andrade first suggested that Gov. Ron DeSantis appoint Hofberger after the August primary so that District 4 would have representation during the budget process. However, the governor’s review process took longer than anticipated.
The District 4 seat became vacant when Gov. DeSantis appointed Commissioner Robert Bender as the Escambia County Supervisor of Elections when David Stafford stepped down to take a job with Homeland Security. DeSantis appointed Bender six weeks after Stafford’s announcement.
The Finley/JoJo Neighborhoods are sponsoring a political debate for the District 4 County Commissioner nominees. Both Ron Helms and Ashlee Hofberger will be in attendance to discuss their positions on issues affecting our community. The debate will be held on Thursday, October 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Olive Baptist on Davis Highway.
