In February 2008, Gov. Charlie Crist appointed Benson to the position of Secretary of the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, the agency that oversees the state’s medicaid fraud and abuse program. The State Auditor’s report, to which I refer in the prior post, covers her period in charge of AHCA. Benson failed to have her agency do a review of procedure codes when AHCA changed fiscal agents on June 26, 2008. AHCA didn’t have audits performed as part of the two-year design, development and implementation phases. In fact, the auditor found such reviews and audits had not been done for several years.
