First City Art Center (FCAC) is reigniting its HOT GLASS, COLD BREW (HGCB) Flower Power Edition on Fri., May 9, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 1060 N. Guillemard St. (the corner of Guillemard and Gonzalez Streets). Don’t miss the last Hot Glass Cold Brew of the season. Our “Flower Power” edition promises to get your 60’s groove on! This fundraiser directly supports First City Art Center’s programs.
However, as a result of the disastrous storm which caused tremendous damage to Pensacola neighborhoods as well as to outlying areas, our HGCB event will reignite to include our neighbors on the adjacent lot: Open Books, the Emerald Coast Community of Makers, the Long Hollow Neighborhood and North Hill Preservation Associations. They suffered enormous losses as well – Open Books lost all of its inventory and will have a presence at HGCB to inform you about their mission. They will be holding a book drive during the event. The Makers (who also lost all of their equipment, some owned, some borrowed) as well as the Long Hollow and North Hill associations will have a wish list of donations for you to consider. In addition, FCAC has set up a campaign at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/first-city-art-center-flood-recovery in order to rebuild facilities and programs: 25% of whatever funding we receive is earmarked for our above-mentioned neighbors.
There is a suggested donation of $25 for non-members and $20 for members; for those who sign up for a new FCAC membership, your entry will be free! Because of damage to the glass hot shop and pottery studio, cups will be especially limited. Doors open promptly at 5 pm. You are encouraged to bring your own cup from a previous Hot Glass Cold Brew and receive a $5 discount on your entry fee.
We will have a table set up with a law team from the insurance specialists, Taylor, Warren and Weidner, who will be available to give you flood insurance information.
Enjoy brew courtesy of Pensacola Bay Brewery and Escambia Bay Homebrewers (alcoholic* and non-alcoholic beverages are available), and live music by Michael Lockwood. Food is always fun with Dan Dunn, Executive Chef at the Hilton Pensacola Beach Gulf Front and Nathan Holler of the dog House Deli! They will be serving the quintessential 60’s treats, Sloppy Joe’s and Hot Dogs. Live demos from glass and pottery artists will be happening all evening long. Torch-work mini-workshops will also be held â youâll be able to make a bauble, pendant or flower. âShindig Photo Boothâ will also be on sight to help create memories for you of our final HGCB of the season. For a small fee, you can take home a customized event photo!
Ben Twingley will host a Raku firing during the Hot Glass Cold Brew event. This is a lot of fun and has been very popular in the past. Guests can pick out a bisque-fired pot, glaze it and assist with firing and go home with a beautiful Raku pot! Prices start at $10 and include the pot, glazes, tools, instruction and firing.
First City Art Center Studios and Gallery will host the opening reception for “Bloom”, an exhibit featuring the work of the resident artists chosen for the 2014 Gallery and Studios program. The work includes a wide range of media including: painting, drawing, sculpture, glass, ceramics, mixed media jewelry, photography and digital processes.
