While Gov. Crist and Republican lawmakers are beating their chests proclaiming property taxes should be cut, House Republican leaders are telling school districts to raise their tax rates.

From the Miami Herald:

In a year when legislators are demanding that local governments slash property taxes, House Republicans sent school districts a different message Tuesday: If you want more money, raise property taxes.

The offer is part of the public schools budget House Republicans unveiled Tuesday, noting that it includes $1.2 billion more than this year’s plan, a 6.5 percent increase. But to get the full increase, local school boards will have to raise taxes.

What is really crazy about this is our lawmakers will return to their districts and brag about how much they increase education funding. In reality, they’re just giving us back the tax dollars we paid for education.
