How did suspect know where Trump was playing golf?

The FBI is investigating what it calls an “attempted assassination” of former President Donald Trump, after Secret Service agents fired at a man with an AK-47 on or near Trump’s Florida golf course on Sunday. It was not clear if the suspect was aiming his weapon at Trump.

A Trump campaign spokesperson says the former president is “safe.” He was present at the golf course when the shooting unfolded when he heard “popping sounds” in the vicinity. It comes just over two months after the attempted assassination of the former president that took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.

ABC News Steven Portnoy brought us up to speed on what happened on “Real News with Rick Outzen.”

“There are lots of questions here about the security around the former president in the wake of the assassination attempt two months ago, certainly about the suspect who has a criminal past,” he said. “How did he get his hands lawfully or otherwise on an AK 47 and how was he able to get a quarter or about a quarter mile of a former president who happens to be the Republican nominee.”

He added, “At the moment, not a lot of answers about the Palm Beach situation. Particularly because it was not Donald Trump’s announced plan to go golfing yesterday. It was sort of according to sources, a spur of the moment thing. So you have to wonder how it was that this man could have even known and how the Secret Service could have better prepared for a spur of the moment golf trip.”
