The daily newspaper reported Thursday on a $100-million class action lawsuit concerning a public housing project, Mirasol, in San Antonio. The lawsuit names Rick Rodriguez and his Magi Realty as one of the defendants.
I found the HUD audit report on Mirasol that points out how badly San Antonio Housing Authority handled the construction. Magi Realty was part of a development team—and appears to be the local partner of a larger joint venture (Magi Realty, KB Homes, East West Designs and Qzuna & Associates Consulting Engineers). KB Homes was the “deep pockets” in the group and was responsible for the actual construction.
Such joint ventures are common on local projects – a local architect, engineer or builder is added to a team to give the joint venture a local component. All the groups that originally expressed interest in the CMP had local businesses as part of their teams.
