Hugh King drops out of Democrat primary

The race for Escambia County Commissioner District 3 has seen one life-long Democrat drop his party affiliation and switch to No Party Affiliation (NPA)–Hugh King, Sr. The former city councilman hasn’t gotten much traction among Democrats, especially after Lumon May and Jewel Cannada-Wynn filed. Although he was the one of the first candidates to file, he had yet to get enough petitions to qualify for the Democratic primary.

There was little hope for King to survive the Democratic primary. The switch lets him stay somewhat relevant for another four months, if the pawn shops that are backing him will continue to fund his campaign.
