The Ice Flyers ownership group, headed by Tim Kerr, added a new member to the group prior to the season. Greg Harris joins the organization as a minority owner and Alternate Governor. He moved from Canada down to the Gulf Coast at the start of the season and has been actively working in the Ice Flyers’ office and in the community.
Greg and the Harris family were looking to get involved in an ownership capacity in the SPHL when an opportunity to become a partner with Tim Kerr arose. Kerr said, “It was a great opportunity for the Ice Flyers’ ownership group to have a local owner, as Greg was willing to move to Pensacola and immerse himself in the business of the organization and in Pensacola.”
Harris has been busy familiarizing himself with the business operations of the Ice Flyers and with his new surroundings. “I have a great passion for the game and for business,” Harris added. “To be able to move down to Pensacola and come to the rink every day was a very easy decision.”
Greg has played hockey at the college level and has coached Junior ‘A’ hockey in Canada. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, double majoring in International Business and Finance. After working at a Canadian investment firm, he changed his direction to follow his entrepreneurial roots in the health care industry in Canada with businesses he continues to operate.
His playing and coaching experience combined with his business knowledge brings a similar drive to the success of the Ice Flyers as Kerr has. “Greg shares the same passion for hockey as I do,” Kerr replied. “We both know and understand the game. But on the business side, he has learned very quickly and knows what it takes for the business of the team to be successful.”
“I am proud and extremely excited to be representing the Ice Flyers’ ownership group in the Pensacola area,” Harris said. “It is easy to see the potential here with professional hockey in Pensacola. There is a large following of fans and corporate sponsors that I am going to help increase year after year.”
Harris has been working directly with the media to help further the media relations of the team. He has also made a commitment to increase the visibility of the players, the organization and the Ice Flyers’ brand through community goodwill and, with the help of the Ice Flyers’ Booster Club, through different events in the Pensacola area – including the Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show, the 44th Annual Snowball Derby, Mardi Gras events and parades, and many others.
“We have a hard working office and they have been very welcoming, as have the people of Pensacola,” Harris added. “I enjoy walking around the arena every game and meeting season ticket holders and fans of the team and talking hockey with them. I also look forward to establishing long-term relationships with the people, the fans, and the businesses of the surrounding counties.”
Greg and the Harris family are pleased to be a part of the Pensacola Ice Flyers’ family. They look to continue and expand the success of the team and are committed to the longevity of the Ice Flyers in Pensacola.
Pensacola heads to Huntsville for the first time this season tonight, and then returns home to face Knoxville on Saturday at 7:05 PM.
