We received an insertion order from Valassis and Mindshare for a BP Oil Spill ad. I and my staff made the decision that we will not accept the order and turned down the ad.
Here is my fax that I sent to Valassis this afternoon:
The Independent News is declining insertion order # 22240 for British Petroleum. We believe that the oil that is leaking from the Deepwater Horizon Well may destroy the livelihoods of our families, friends and readers and severely impact the quality of life of the entire Gulf Coast.
BP’s monies would be better spent capping the leaks, cleaning up the oil spill and paying the claims of the communities, businesses and citizens hurt by this disaster.
