Inaugural Rising Stars

Here is the inaugural Rising Star class from 2008.  We did smaller versions in 2006 and 2007, but we realized the highlighting of our young leaders deserved to be more than an insert in an issue.

KRISTA ALBACH
Age: 28

Why nominated: “Krista oversees professional and paraprofessional staffs who manage six residential areas comprised of approximately 1500 students. Krista’s current collaborative efforts with the UWF Student Transitions Office focus on a new residential model to develop living/learning communities for UWF students opening in Fall 2008. Three best reasons to live in Pensacola area: We haven’t lost our small town feel; Sure, Pensacola has some good ole boy networks solidly intact, but unlike, I would suspect , many cities in the South, I have been surprised at the ease of access to community leaders and officials; As a whole, our cost of living is still low when compared to rest of Florida and many similar-sized cities.

Name three top things you would like to see in the greater Pensacola area in the next five years: Although some say our housing market was due to start catching up with the rest of Florida, the average salaries of our residents have not increased proportionally to the skyrocketing home costs. My concern relates to how this disparity looks to companies and potential employees who are considering relocating to Pensacola, and I would like to see these statistics become more aligned; The Escambia County school system still has tremendous room for improvement; A much more vibrant core downtown area that attracts not only residents, but gives tourists another good reason to venture away from the beach for awhile.
