On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Second Lady Karen Pence will travel to Pensacola to meet with military leadership regarding mental health and military spouse programs, talk to military spouses and view a Blue Angels demonstration at NAS Pensacola.
Upon arrival, Mrs. Pence will participate in a senior leadership briefing at 11:15 a.m. Representatives of these programs and a chaplain will participate. Pence will highlight her role with PREVENTS and discuss the importance of addressing mental health and providing resources for service members and their families.
“PREVENTS” stands for President’s Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End a National Tragedy of Suicide, a “holistic public health approach to suicide prevention” — among not just Veterans but all Americans.
At noon, she will view a Blue Angels practice flight demonstration and meet with Blue Angels Team Members. The pilots will give an overview about their team, the new planes, and how they’ve been modifying their season due to the pandemic.
Following the demonstration, the Second Lady will deliver remarks to military spouses highlighting their unique strength in the military community and important contributions to the readiness of our Armed Forces. Ms. Pence launched an awareness campaign in September 2018 to elevate and encourage military spouses while also recognizing their unique employment challenges. She has traveled the country meeting spouses, business leaders, and government officials advocating for more fulfilling career opportunities for military spouses.
All these meetings are closed to the public and media.
