Kazakhstan and Cantonment

A second international delegation will be touring the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority’s (ECUA) Central Water Reclamation Facility later this week. This delegation, from Kazakhstan, follows a visit from a Spanish delegation from Macharaviaya in 2011.

The Kazakhstan delegation will be touring ECUA’s Cantonment facility on Thursday. The local water reclamation facility was a top-three finalist for the 2011 Global Water Reuse Project of the Year by Global Water Intelligence in Berlin, Germany. According to a statement from ECUA: ‘the facility uses advanced wastewater treatment technology, and achieves zero-discharge through partnerships for industrial reuse of the reclaimed water. The reuse partnerships also reduce demand on the Sand-and-Gravel Aquifer, the sole source of the area’s drinking water.’

The delegation is visiting as part of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. The visit was arranged by the Institute of International Education and their local program coordinator, the Gulf Coast Citizen Diplomacy Council.
