Kites on the Coast returns March 14

Casino Beach will transform into a colorful aerial spectacle next month as the Council on Aging of West Florida hosts its fourth annual Gulf Winds Credit Union Kites on the Coast festival from March 14 to 16. This free, three-day celebration combines the joy of kite flying with community support for essential senior services.

The event will feature massive show kites from Chicago Kite and aerial performances by the stunt kite team SkyFX. Visitors can look forward to food trucks, children’s activities, and a vibrant atmosphere at the Gulfside Pavilion.

SCHEDULE: Friday’s festivities begin at 4 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m., featuring a unique lighted night fly after sunset that coincides with Cinemas in the Sand for an evening of family entertainment. Saturday’s events start at 10 a.m. with another illuminated night fly (weather permitting), while Sunday’s kite flying runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own kites, purchase one at the event, or enjoy the spectacle of colorful kites soaring above Pensacola’s shoreline.

WHY THIS MATTERS: Gulf Winds Credit Union is the “In the Clouds” sponsor. Daniel Souers, Gulf Winds President and CEO, explains their support: “We are honored to be longtime supporters of Council on Aging and raise awareness of its programs and services. Supporting our local elders is part of our mission, and events like this remind us of how we can all bridge intergenerational gaps and make a difference.”

While the festival is free, donations will be accepted to support vital programs, including Meals on Wheels, caregiver support, and The Retreat adult day care. These services help seniors in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties maintain independence.

“At the same time, the festival supports our mission of ensuring local seniors can age in place with dignity and independence,” adds Echevarria.
