Details: Chicago Kite will showcase massive show kites, while Michigan-based stunt kite team SkyFX brings aerial artistry that has to be seen to be believed. Food trucks and kids’ activities at the Gulfside Pavilion round out the fun on the ground.
- The schedule offers something for every part of the weekend. Friday kicks off at noon — earlier than previous years — and wraps the evening with a lighted night fly after sunset that will coincide with Cinemas in the Sand for a truly special family evening. Saturday’s festivities begin at 10 a.m. with another lighted night fly planned, weather permitting. Sunday runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“It brings the community together, young and old alike,” said Council on Aging marketing communications director Emily Echevarria. The event is designed to do more than entertain — it’s also an opportunity for families to learn about Council on Aging’s programs before a crisis strikes and they suddenly need them.
Your Good Time Supports a Good Cause
Those programs are significant. Funds raised through sponsorships and donations at the event support Meals on Wheels, caregiver assistance, and The Retreat adult day care, all serving seniors in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Donations will be accepted throughout the weekend.
Council on Aging of West Florida has been quietly doing this work since 1972, helping seniors remain safe and independent in their own homes. Kites on the Coast is a chance for the broader community to connect with that mission in the most enjoyable way imaginable — barefoot in the sand, eyes on the sky.
