Escambia County is still working the Cove Landfill fire. While the health advisory issued is still in effect, progress is reportedly being made.
“Made good progress today,†relayed county PIO Kelly Cooke this afternoon. “most of the vegetation has been capped, there are still a few spots that are smoldering.â€
County crews, along with the property owner, will continue working the landfill fire through the weekend. They’ve been dealing with the incident for nearly a week.
The landfill is located near Pine Meadow Elementary School. Children in portable classrooms were relocated to the main building earlier in the week to address air-quality concerns.
