Attorney LaRuby May, daughter of Mary May and the late Theophalis May, led roundtable discussions at the Democratic National Convention. On “Real News with Rick Outzen” today, we discussed her week and the power of Black women.
“You don’t want to mess with black women,” she said. “I think that many oftentimes black women are just so discounted in all aspects of existence. But there’s a minimization of how when black women get motivated, when we mobilize as black women, we come out strong and we come out strong on the front, but we also bring along our brothers and dads and our sons and our nephews. And so it makes the fight almost unfair when you pick off a black woman.”
May talked Win with Black Women and the Sisterhood Lounge at the DNC.
“They’re a group of amazing women who are extremely well accomplished in the political world and in the business world,” she said. “It was the first group of Black women that raised a million dollars for Kamala Harris. The week here at the convention in the exhibit hall, they have a venue that’s called the Sisterhood Lounge.”
May continued, “In the Sisterhood Lounge, they provide opportunities for Win with Black Women members and others who partner with the organization to come and have round table discussions about the work that’s being done by Black women that’s impacting the community at large, but very specifically having an impact on Black women. And I was very, very blessed with the opportunity to host two roundtables yesterday at the convention.”
