What is your greatest fear?
That the Mayans are right. (2012)
What is the trait you most deplore?
Condescending arrogance.
Which person do you most admire?
Ella Fitzgerald. She was an amazing person with such class and style, and an unmatched talent. I have loved her music since I was a kid.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Shoes (But never, ever flats! I can’t walk in them.)
What is your favorite journey?
Watching my daughter becoming a young adult. It’s a bittersweet mixture of pride and denial for me.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Patience.
When and where are you most comfortable?
Watching sunsets from just about anywhere. The light of dusk makes everything look almost surreal.
Which talent would you most like to have?
That of an accomplished percussionist.
Who would you want to play you in a movie about your life?
A 30-something Catherine Deneuve.
What do you consider your greatest failure?
Following my head and not my heart in the past. The battle of Cupid and Psyche used to be an ongoing one for me.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
Asking a female Air Force officer when her baby was due while shopping at the exchange at the Air Force Academy many years ago. She wasn’t expecting.
What is your dream job (not your current one)?
Getting paid to travel the globe taking underwater photos and video of sea life.
What is your favorite song?
“Aja” by Steely Dan.
What do you most value in friends?
Loyalty.
What do you most dislike?
Those who take themselves far too seriously and are absent of wit and humor.
If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be?
My father would still be alive.
What have you learned in life?
The more knowledge we acquire, the more questions there are.
What is the last book you read?
“Cara’s Tale of Wolves and Freedom,” my daughter’s newly published novel
What superpower would like to have?
I would like to be able to just “pop in” to where I want to be immediately. Sort of like on “Bewitched.” I could always be on time if that were possible.
What is your motto?
Life is so short, each and every second counts. The past 10 seconds you read this are as important as the last few seconds on your deathbed. So enjoy everything you do, all the time.
