Latest poll shows why Northwest Florida Republicans like Carson and Trump

The latest NY Times/CBS News poll has retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson ahead of Donald Trump in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. However, the difference is well within the poll’s margin of sampling error.

Carson and Trump tap into different segments of the Republican electorate. Carson is supported heavily by evangelicals and self-described conservatives–which may explain his surge of support in Northwest Florida. Trump does better among Republican primary voters who do not have a college education and with those who are not evangelical—the rest of Northwest Florida Republicans….Just kidding, sort of.

Three-quarters of the Republicans surveyed called their own party divided and seven in 10 acknowledged that Republicans were at least partly to blame for dysfunction and gridlock in Washington.
