Florida’s State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) has activated in response to flooding in the Panhandle of Florida.
WEATHER SUMMARY:
A frontal boundary is poised to push through Northwest Florida over the weekend, but this will bring a 60% chance of showers and storms to the Western Panhandle today. Severe weather is not anticipated, but frequent lightning strikes and heavy rain will be possible today. Widespread rainfall of between 1 and 3 inches is anticipated with locally heavier amounts of 4-7 inches possible. As a result, a flash flood watch has been issued for Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties beginning at 2 PM EDT. The flash flood watch could be extended for more of the Panhandle as this system moves further east during the evening an overnight hours. The Santa Fe River at Three Rivers Estate remains in major flood stage, but is forecast to drop into moderate flood stage on Sunday. Otherwise, many areas along the Suwannee and Santa Fe Rivers as well as the Choctawhatchee River at Bruce remain in minor flood stage.
