Escambia County continues to find ways to pour money into the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. The News Journal reports today that the county wants federal funds to further augment the ECSO budget (Escambia’s $100 million wish lists ). Here the two items listed in the article:
- $25 million for a facility for mentally ill inmates.
- $15 million for a training facility for law enforcement, emergency response and fire rescue agencies.
The county already spends more on law enforcement than any other service: $76.4 million.
The ECSO will get $56 million from Local Option Sales tax over the next 11 years.
Meanwhile – public health – remember the county’s health indicators that has been described as being akin to that of a “Third World Country” – gets less than $400,000.
I believe in safe neighborhoods, but something seems out of sinc here.
