Lion fish on Escambia County Commission agenda

The Escambia Board of County Commissioners have two agenda items regarding lion fish.

A proclamation, in recognition of the removal of the greatest number of non-native, invasive lionfish, congratulating Captain Andy Ross and Niuhi Dive Charters for removing 156 non-native, invasive lionfish from the Gulf of Mexico reefs.

And

A recommendation concerning a Resolution supporting additional Lionfish Control Efforts from Keith Wilkins, Community & Environment Department Director:

That the Board adopt and authorize the Chairman to sign a Resolution supporting the development of additional lionfish control efforts and more effective lionfish control measures, and encouraging and requesting the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Legislature, Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council, National Marine Fisheries Service, other state and federal agencies, non-governmenta organizations, and volunteer groups to support the development and implementation of lionfish removal and population control measures.
