Little more on 2008 Mobile successes

I found a copy of the 2008 Mobile Chamber annual report (anlrpt).

The majority of Mobile’s 2008 economic development expansions were with local shipbuilders: Atlantic Marine, Austal USA, C&G Boatworks, Evonik Degussa, SSAB Alabama Inc. and Silver Ships, which resulted in 1,641 high-paying jobs and $846.5 million in capital investment.

The Mobile Area Chamber, through contracts with the city and county, is the lead economic recruiter and collaborates with various entities to secure projects for the Mobile Bay area.

Mobile has a public-private partnership called Partners for Growth that is run by the Chamber. It raised last year $10,441,900 from the private sector. Half of the 200 investors made long-term pledges to support the program from 2008 to 2012, including the city of Mobile and Mobile County.

The initiative has aggressive goals of creating more than 3,750 jobs from 2008 – 2012 with targeted annual salaries of $38,500, and more than $1 billion in capital investments locally.
