Living History Event: Civil War at Ship Island, April 9

Gulf Islands National Seashore in partnership with Ship Island Excursions and the Gulf Coast Living History Association will host a living history event this Saturday, April 9 on West Ship Island, Mississippi. This free event will explore the lives of Union and Confederate soldiers stationed at Ship Island during the Civil War.

The event is an opportunity to experience and learn about the many roles that Ship Island served during the Civil War. Visitors can tour historic Fort Massachusetts, visit the soldier’s encampment, and join staff for demonstrations and talks throughout the day.

West Ship Island is only accessible by boat. Ship Island Excursions will run boats to West Ship Island at 9:00 am and at 12:00 pm. For more information on the ferry schedule and prices call (228) 864-1014 or go to www.msshipisland.com.

Visitors should dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
