Magaha Governmental Complex?

The Escambia County Commission will  consider waiving policy this week in order to rename the county’s downtown complex in honor of the outgoing clerk of court.

Ernie Lee Magaha has served as Escambia’s clerk of court since 1957. In August, he lost to challenger Pam Childers in the primary.

This Thursday, commissioners will consider changing the name of the county’s Palafox Street facility from the Escambia County Governmental Complex to the Ernie Lee Magaha Governmental Complex.

County staff estimates that the budgetary impact of such a move would not exceed $5,000. The costs would include a renaming ceremony and brass plaque, which would be located in the lobby; the complex’s current exterior plaque would remain unchanged.

The Escambia County Commission meets Thursday at 5:30 p.m., with public comment at 4:30 p.m., inside the governmental complex chambers.
