Update on Malcolm Yonge Gym: Malcolm Yonge Gym is closed until further notice due to concerns of potentially unsafe building conditions, effective at 5 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 21. Mayor D.C. Reeves, along with city leadership, made the decision to close the facility in an abundance of caution until a comprehensive structural assessment can be completed.
City staff will work with the building tenant, Lighthouse Christian Academy, to safely re-enter the building and retrieve personal items as needed while the building is closed.
The city is in the process of drafting a scope of work for a consultant to conduct a structural assessment of the building. Once completed, the city will evaluate the results of the assessment and determine the next steps forward.
Malcolm Yonge Gym is a City of Pensacola-owned facility located at 925 E. Jackson St.
