Malcolm Yonge not safe

At this weekly presser, Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves discussed the status of the Malcolm Yonge Community Center, which has been closed since March 21. Lighthouse Academy has been renting the facility to serve as its gym.

Mayor Reeves said Geosyntec should have its final report to the city by the end of the week, but he asked them for an update on whether the school can use it before the school year ends.

“Our formal report is pending, but in the meantime, I wanted to acknowledge that there’s extensive rot to each end of all of the arches,” he told the media. “There’s major structural damage; some of the arches are showing signs of buckling. In summary, the building is not safe for occupancy. That is the preliminary update that we’ve got. We will give you more details when that formal report comes out.”
