Malcolm Yonge Petition needs 4,138 signatures

According to Supervisor of Elections Robert Bender, the City of Pensacola had 41,381 registered voters for the 2022 general election, which means the Committee to Save Malcolm Yonge Community Center needs to collect 4,138 signatures from registered city voters.

Jonathan Green and Teresa Hill discuss their efforts to force a referendum on whether the Malcolm Yonge Gym should be demolished. They will need to collect 4,138 signatures from registered city voters to get the referendum on the ballot. To learn more about the petition, visit https://savepensacola.com/.

Green said, “Whether you’re for bringing the Malcolm Young Community Center down or saving the community center to restore it, we want the community to be able to be those decision-makers in that regard.”

Hill said they already have the 10 registered city voters needed to start the petition process. “We have a website set up savepensacola.com. So, if you’re interested in getting a petition ballot to sign, once we get through the Supervisors of Election process here in the next couple of days, one of the petitioners on that committee will bring you the ballot to sign it.”
