Manna Donut Strike breaks record

The annual confectionary campaign that raises food and monetary donations to help feed the hungry in Pensacola set a new record last week with 20,233 pounds of healthy food raised and $21,582 donated. That adds up to a total of 34,074 healthy meals to feed the hungry in our community at a time when donations are down due to the cancellation of major food drives such as the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Today, one in three children go to bed hungry in our community. So, for participating agencies, this became a competition to see who could bring in the most groceries and money. Pensacola Police Department won first place for pounds of food, and Midway Fire District brought in the most amount of cash. Agencies that participated include Escambia County Fire Rescue, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Gulf Breeze Fire Rescue, Gulf Breeze Police Department, Midway Fire District, Pace Fire Rescue District, Pensacola Fire Department, and Pensacola Police Department.
