Marcus Pointe Country Club closing, can Pensacola afford to keep Osceola open?

The News Journal is reporting that Marcus Pointe Golf Club that it will close its course at the end of this year. Rodney Sutton at Sperry Van Ness has the listing for the property.

The reasons given for the closure are the downtown in golf popularity and the damage to the course and its irrigation system during the January freeze and the April floods.

Interim City Administrator Dick Barker has reported to the Pensacola City Council that the city course lost $210,900 through June 30 and received a $67,500 subsidy from the General Fund. Barker estimated the course will need an additional $250,000 subsidy by Sept. 30. The time has come for city officials to discuss the practicality of keeping its course open.
