The Miami Marlins announced today that Nelson Prada will lead the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos as manager for the 2025 season, heading a new-look coaching staff for the Southern League club.
- Prada brings an impressive track record to Pensacola, having most recently guided the Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads to their first Florida State League championship in 2023. The Venezuelan native becomes the seventh manager in Blue Wahoos history, taking over from Kevin Randel who served from 2021-2024.
A milestone achievement marked Prada’s 2024 campaign with Jupiter, as he became just the fifth Venezuelan manager in Minor League Baseball history to reach 700 career wins. His extensive managerial experience includes successful stints with both the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies organizations, as well as international experience managing the Spain National Team, whom he led to their first European championship in 58 years.
REST OF THE STAFF
The coaching staff features returning members Jerad Eickhoff as pitching coach and Jason Krizan as hitting coach, both entering their second seasons with the club. Eickhoff brings Major League experience from his seven-year playing career with the Phillies, Mets, and Pirates, while Krizan transitioned to coaching after making his MLB debut with the Giants in 2022.
New additions to the staff include defensive coaches Jay Weaver and Ruben Someillan. Weaver, co-founder of The Catching Camp, joins professional baseball after establishing himself as a respected catching instructor. Someillan arrives from Jacksonville University, where he previously served as an assistant coach following his collegiate playing career.
The support staff is rounded out by athletic trainer Adam Sparks, strength and conditioning coach Brandon Remalia, video coach Britton Barthold, and clubhouse manager Alexandra Fletcher.
The Blue Wahoos will begin their quest for a third Southern League championship when they host the Biloxi Shuckers on April 4 at Blue Wahoos Stadium. The team has made season tickets and mini plans available, with single-game tickets set to go on sale March 1.
