Pensacola City Councilman Marty Donovan spoke to the PNJ on Sunday about the red clays discharges into Pensacola Bay during and after heavy rain storms.
From the PNJ:
“The Florida Department of Transportation is responsible for the runoff, and it’s been an ongoing problem since the project started in September of 2002,” he said. “The local (Department of Environmental Protection) is unwilling to do their job and enforce the laws against another state agency. This is a case of selective enforcement or selective unenforcement.”
Marty, what have you done to help solve the problem over the past five years? If you put the same effort into cleaning up the Bayou Texar, Carpenter’s Creek and Pensacola Bay as you did fighting the Community Maritime Park may be the City could have won more concessions from FDOT and the road contractor.
Calling a attention to a problem that, according to your PNJ quote, has lasted five years is only the first step in solving a problem. Give us solutions, Marty.
