To kick-off National Volunteer Recognition Month, United Way of Escambia County, the City of Pensacola and Escambia County are hosting The Mayor and County’s Day of Recognition for Community Volunteers on Tuesday, April 4 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on the lawn at City Hall. The special event celebrates the spirit of volunteerism and honors national service members.
According to the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Independent Sector in 2015, an estimated 59,091 citizens volunteered their time and talent for an average of 27 hours in Escambia County. Their service created an estimated $38 million impact.
In the press release, Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward talked about the importance of volunteers.
“Volunteerism has a tremendous impact on the City of Pensacola,” said the mayor. “We are truly blessed to have so many generous people in our community who are devoted to helping others in need. I am forever grateful for the many volunteers that dedicate their time and efforts to make Pensacola such a great place to live.â€
April is also Child Abuse Prevention Month. Attendees will have an opportunity to volunteer by completing a service project that raises awareness for the Blue to Better Campaign. Those who do so will create and place blue bows around City Hall. Gulf Coast Kid’s House will be on-site to supply materials and answer any questions on how volunteers can spread awareness about child abuse.
