Mayor Hayward issues statement on Fountain, he will talk to her next week

In the furor over the qualifications of Tamara Fountain to serve as the Chief Operations Officer for the City of Pensacola, one voice has been missing–Mayor Ashton Hayward.

The PNJ’s article on Fountain’s education (she has a BBA from UWF, not a MBA) and experience has gone through several versions since it was first published online on Thursday.

The city did send the daily newspaper a statement on the mayor’s position on his COO:

“Tamara has been on vacation this week. The Mayor has not had the opportunity to talk to her. He looks forward to talking to her when she returns.”

Ouch. Hayward should be the one defending his COO, and he could do it better than that.
