Former Pensacola City Councilwoman Maren Deweese has been combing through Mayor Ashton Hayward’s proposed FY 2017.
She has discovered the mayor has proposed raising the salary of each council member by $10,000 – from $13,998.14 annually to $23,998.14.
Councilman Larry Johnson has proposed the salaries be adjusted to equal the salaries of ECUA and School Board members – $37,266. His proposal is on the agenda for a vote tonight.
The mayor’s recommended pay raises will have to survive budget hearings.

Neither salary proposal is tied to actual meeting attendance.
It appears keeping spending down is no longer a priority of city leaders.
