Using Facebook, Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward delivered his message on the status of the airport food concessions contract. Last Thursday, the Pensacola City Council voted to extend Varona’s contract on a month-to-month basis until a new RFP process could be completed.
In a video, Hayward said that the council vote left the city vulnerable to a lawsuit and was done against the legal advice of the city attorney and counter to an opinion from an outside legal attorney. He said that over the next few days he will keep the public informed on his use of his executive powers to “protect our city.”
