Mayor’s PAC Texts Voters to Back Myers Over Bare for D2 Seat

Pensacola Politics

Citizens for Pensacola, the mayor’s political committee, targets a council member who has been a thorn in his side this year.

Mayor D.C. Reeves’ PAC, Citizens for Pensacola, has sent a text to the City’s District 2 voters that supports former City Councilwoman Sherri Myers in her bid to unseat her successor, Charles Bare.

Here is the text:

SHERRI MYERS City Council Candidate. Uptown needs a proven leader who knows our neighborhoods and gets results.

SHERRI MYERS is THE VOICE OF UPTOWN. During her 12 years on the City Council, she SECURED $3 MILLION TO REBUILD FIRE STATION #3. Sherri delivered sidewalks, drainage, street lighting and bike lanes for Uptown, worked to restore Carpenter Creek, and protected the parks and recreation areas our families love.

Early voting locations are open through October 31. If you have a mail ballot, you can drop it off at any early voting site during hours of operation.

SHERRI MYERS – Our trusted leader

Paid for by Citizens for Pensacola. Text STOP to end.

Who Is Citizens for Pensacola?

It is a Political Action Committee formed in August 2021 by the mayor’s father, James J. Reeves, and Danny Zimmern, realtor and founder of Pensacola Mardi Gras, to support D.C. Reeves’ campaign for mayor. See Citizens_Statement_of_Organization

In March 2024, UWF professor Kevin Krieger replaced Zimmern as chair.

Since its formation, Citizens for Pensacola has spent $171,815 to help Reeves win and hold the mayor’s job and pay his travel expenses to Los Angeles, as well as contribute to Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger’s campaign and other candidates outside the area.

Why Oppose Bare?

Councilman Charles Bare has been a thorn in the mayor’s side this year, and Reeves hasn’t hesitated to make snide remarks about the councilman at press conferences and in interviews.

In my interview with Bare earlier this month, the councilman said he pushes back against the mayor when his constituents don’t want to go where the mayor wants to go.

Be Careful What You Ask For

Sherri Myers battled both Mayor Ashton Hayward and Mayor Grover Robinson during her 12 years on the city council. She endorsed Robinson for mayor in 2018. By 2022, she said she was very disappointed and that he hadn’t addressed the north-end issues he promised.
