The Daily News reports today that Gulf Breeze High School teacher George McCormick filed this week another complaint against School Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick with the state attorney’s office after discovering a $200 cash contribution had been made to Wyrosdick’s campaign. The law is a candidate can not accept cash contributions larger than $50. Anyone found guilty can face up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Sheriff David Morgan filed a similar complaint against his opponent John Powell this week, too.
Wyrosdick told the Daily News that he had returned the contribution once it was brought to his attention. Santa Rosa Supervisor of Elections Ann Bodenstein has received a letter from Wyrosdick about the contribution and the refund.
Powell told the News Journal that he was also returning the cash contributions and that the error was inadvertent.
For McCormick, this is his second complaint against Wyrosdick. He earlier accused Wyrosdick of soliciting campaign contributions from his staff and allowing them to use district property for election purposes. Both the state attorney’s office and the Ethics Commission found insufficient evidence to take action.
